Not since my college days have I written about education. It's something I've done not discussed. However, the pandemic has started me thinking about what is it we are trying to achieve when sending children to school and students to university. Or even when educating them at home as many have done during this pandemic. I've taught in different environments which I'll discuss as I write my posts. But I shall also want to look at the theory behind the practice because, for me, this is important. Just as you can't play a musical instrument without a good knowledge of technique so you can't, in my experience, teach effectively if you don't possess solid theoretical grounding. This isn't as intimidating as it sounds. It's a matter of addressing the usual questions of why, how, when, what, and even where. I shall not be limiting myself to only one age group since I have taught children across the age groups at some point. Educational theory has many aspects to it, and therefore, I shall be including other disciplines, such as, psychology and sociology and show how these help us to understand our practice. The topics I shall be discussing will be ones that occur within a school setting from curriculum to classroom discipline but I shall also be spending a fair amount of time on home schooling too.
Feel free to comment, ask questions, make suggestions or ask me to clarify/expand on a topic that interests you. I shall answer as many as I can but everything will first be vetted so there may be a time delay. I write all the posts, unless I state otherwise, and reply but all technical stuff is organised by Liba Kaucky.
